All cargo shipped to Somali ports requires an ECTN (Electronic Cargo Tracking Note), also known as a Cargo Waiver. The ECTN must be obtained from the exporters, shippers or freight forwarders in the port/country of origin. The ECTN number must be stated on the bill of lading. Shipments that arrive without a valid ECTN will be subject to penalties/fines and confiscation.
Required documents and information:
- Copy bill of lading
- Commercial invoice in EUR or USD, with separately stated FOB goods value and sea freight costs (otherwise an additional sea freight invoice or sea freight declaration is required)
- HS CODE(s)
The ECTN must be approved up to 5 calendar days before the ship's arrival.
